David Steen Obituary

1943 - 2015

David Lester Steen, of Henderson, NV, former resident of Valencia, CA, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015, in Palm Springs, CA, at the age of 71. David passed away from a heart attack. He was born March 27, 1943, in Canby, MN, to Lester and Adeline (Berndt) Steen. He was baptized in Canby and confirmed at Riverside Lutheran Church in Dawson, MN.

He graduated from Dawson High School in 1961. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy proudly serving his country from 1962 to 1964. From 1968 to 1996 he worked at the Dawson Coop Oil. On July 14, 1971, David was united in marriage to Sandra (Krugerud) Kanstrup of Dawson. David and his wife, Sandy, moved to Valencia, CA in 1996 where he was employed from 1996 through 2005 as an auto technician for the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the Los Angeles Field Office. He retired in 2005 from the Bureau and while waiting for Sandy to retire he worked as a crossing guard for the Saugus Union School District for three years. At that time they bought a house and moved to Henderson, NV.

David served as a volunteer fireman for the Dawson Fire Department for 26 years retiring in 1996. He was a member of the American Legion Post at Henderson, NV and the Masonic Ateller Lodge No. 202 of Dawson. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Dawson, MN.

David was a very kind, sincere, and compassionate man and was loved and cherished by his family and all who knew him. He loved children and said the best job he ever had was working as a crossing guard where he went the extra mile to protect the safety of the children. He loved the job and said "everyone should work once in their lifetime as a crossing guard to experience seeing the happy children and trusting parents". Parents respected and trusted him, showering him with gifts for every occasion.

David enjoyed spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids. His retirement brought many relaxing days of bird watching, walking outdoors, taking short trips to the casinos, reading books, and watching Joel Osteen on Sunday mornings, and the Fox News Channel.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra and two sons: Kyle (Sherry) of Omaha, NE, and Matthew (Julie Treto) of Newhall, CA; 5 grandchildren: Lee (Jake) Steen, Jared Steen (Amber Miller), Crystal Steen, Jessica Treto, Jordan Treto and 1 great-grandson: Ethan Tinley. He was preceded in death by his parents.

His immediate family will have a private celebration of his life at a later date.
