Jeffrey McIntyre Obituary

Jeffrey M. McIntyre, 46 years old, of Santa Clarita, passed away on June 13, 2009 after a courageous six and a half year battle with cancer. He fought to beat the odds in the same way he did everything: with strength, character, dignity and conviction. Known for his kind and gentle heart, Jeff was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Born in Sacramento, Jeff moved to Rancho Bernardo (San Diego) when he was 7 years old. After graduating from Mount Carmel High School in Rancho Bernardo, Jeff attended UCLA, receiving a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Immediately after graduating from UCLA, Jeff went to work for the City of Los Angeles' Department of Building and Safety. While working for the City, he went on to earn an M.S. in Structural Engineering from CSU Long Beach. Jeff continued to work as a Senior Structural Engineer for the City until shortly before his death. The depth of his knowledge, his egoless management style and his sincere desire to help people earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues as well as those customers who repeatedly sought out his advice.

Jeff was a huge fan of virtually any sport, but he especially loved his San Diego Padres and UCLA Bruins. Jeff was a great athlete himself. He skied for the UCLA Ski Team, was a distance runner, played basketball and was a scratch golfer. However, Jeff's greatest love was reserved for his family. He was immensely proud of his children, Alex, 17, and Katie, 14, and their accomplishments as students and athletes, but most importantly, their development into kind and caring young people. He never ceased to demonstrate to his wife, Courtney, the depth of his love for her. He taught her that there is no greater gift than knowing you are loved completely and totally.

In addition to his wife, Courtney and his children, Katie and Alex, Jeff is survived by his brother, Marc (Mandy), nieces Madeline, Tori and Olivia, and his parents, Gill and Mardelle McIntyre, all of San Diego.

A celebration of Jeff's life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. at the Tesoro Del Valle Clubhouse, 23721 Stoney Creek Road, Valencia, CA 91354. In lieu of flowers, Jeff requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dear Mardi - I read your beautifully written obituary for Jeff in our local paper. When I saw his picture and his name, I knew that he was your son. As the mother of two sons, myself, I know that your loss cannot be measured. Take solace in fact that he passed his spirit and values to his two children. My heart goes out to you and your entire family.

Mardi, Gill, Marc, Mandy and Courtney,

We just found out about Jeff's passing tonight and the news has left us with heavy hearts. What a nice guy he was! (No surprise, considering who raised him.)

Tonight we talked about that night years ago when we all played Pictionary together. Our kids were little back then, but they still remember it as fondly as I do. The McIntyre "boys" were much bigger than they were -- all grown up, in fact, and so nice to my little boys!

Yours is quite a cross to bear. We'd like to help if we can.

Love,

Nancy, Ivan, Johnny and Clinton

Dear Courtney, Alex, and Katie,

I can't tell you how sorry I was to hear about Jeff. He always had a smile on his face. I remember him going to Katie's and Alex's games being so proud of his kids. Such a wonderful and happy man. My prayers are with all of you.
