Leona Turner Obituary

1924-2017

Born December 11, 1924, Leona Lee Turner passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at 92+ great years.

Leona out-lived three husbands and left the planet to her son Gray E Lange Jr., daughter in law Wanda Lange, stepson Frank Turner Jr. and stepdaughter Wendy Stimpson. She was blessed with an additional 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved and was extremely proud of being their grandmother.

She grew up during the depression, married a pilot during WWII, and worked in accounting most of her life. Leona ventured out on her own with a restaurant in Montrose, CA ~ The Three Oaks. It was there that she worked with her second husband, Ramon Rice, and eventually her last husband, Frank Turner. Lee and Frank sold the restaurant and moved to the Santa Clarita Valley. They bought and operated the Newhall Bowl for many years, becoming fixtures in the early development of Newhall, CA and the surrounding area.

Leona was a skilled businessperson and accountant. After selling the bowling alley, she became the office manager for the CPA firm of James Mathis. She made many friends and established relationships in the Santa Clarita Valley that continue to exist in some way, even as she has passed. Leona Lee retired at the age of 85 and moved to Long Beach, CA in 2013 to be closer to her son and family.

Throughout her life one theme was constant - she loved to travel! Starting in the Philippine Islands in 1945, she continued to travel throughout her life to see our planet and its people with many of her family and very dear friends. She was an extraordinarily "person caring" person. If you did not get a birthday card from her, she did not know your birthday.

She had a fantastic and very full life and was dearly loved by all her friends and family. She will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held in Long Beach in June 2017 per her request. Anyone interested in attending please contact her son at [email protected] for details. Leona requested that any acknowledgements of her passing may be made in the form of a donation to her favorite charity, Doctors Without Borders (https://donate.doctorswithoutborders.org/).

With our deepest sympathies , may the power of prayer ease your sorrow, give you peace and provide comfort. Lee was a precious lady and treasured friend. I first met her as the owner of Newhall Bowl. We shared the common goal for the betterment of the Board of Directors of Del Prada Home Owners Association. Love her stories if all the lovely places she traveled. Rest In Peace dear Lee.

A lovely woman and friend to many. She lived a full life, and loved to travel the world. We worked together for fairness and equality on the Del Prada Board of Directors. Her contributions were many. Lee's knowledge in business was unsurpassed. Her kindness was unlike any other God bless her and may she rest in Peace in the arms of the Lord. Lee is dearly missed. I'll never forget her.
