Frances Mary was born to John and Mary (Klein) Ney on Feb. 1, 1922, on a farm just south of Granville. She was raised in the Granville area and attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Granville.
On Nov. 11, 1943, she married Milo Koob at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. They moved to the Koob family farm three miles north of Granville where they farmed and raised their eight children. In 1977, they moved to their new home just east of Granville.
Fran was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling with Milo, baking, cooking, playing cards, and watching baseball. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Milo passed away on June 4, 2003, after 59 years of marriage. In 2012, she moved to Landsmeer Retirement Community in Orange City and lived there until the time of her death.
She is survived by her eight children Sam and Mary Lee of Council Bluffs, Rosemary Meis of Council Bluffs, Marge Mathern of Sioux City, Shirley and Emmet Steffes of Omaha, Denny and Kay of Granville, Patty and Tom Kiernan of Alton, Dale and Deb of Worthington, Minn., and Kristy and Roger Kunkel of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; sister, Kitty Penning; sister-in-law, Doralice Ney; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milo; three sons-in-law, Kenny Konz, Ron Meis, and David "Pete" Mathern; grandson, Craig Koob; great-grandson, Jacob Koob; seven brothers and their spouses, Peter (Marie), Theodore (Kathryn), Lawrence (Helen), Anthony (Evelyn), Joseph (Millie), Jack, and Robert in infancy; four sisters and their spouses, Emma (Clarence) Graff, Marie (Louie) Meinen, Rosalia (Ed) Koob, and Elizabeth in infancy; and Milo's nine siblings and their spouses.
The family would like to thank Father Daniel Greving for his spiritual guidance, the staff at Landsmeer for the wonderful care given to our mother for the past 10 years, Hospice and the doctors and nurses of Orange City Area Health System for their compassionate care in the past two weeks.
