BELL FOURCHE - Jan Stansberry, age 74 of Belle Fourche SD, died June 7, 2024.
The funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Connection Church in Belle Fourche, SD. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Interment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery. Jan Marie Norris was born August 10, 1949 in Cherokee, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ralph and Fern (Tompkins) Norris. Jan grew up on the family farm near Winnebago NE, where she also graduated from high school. On June 15, 1968, Jan was united in marriage to Robert Stansberry at the First Presbyterian Church in Winnebago, NE. To this union 4 daughters were born: Sara, Carolyn, Denise, and Janel. Following their marriage, Jan and Bob lived at Fort Carson CO, where Bob was stationed during his service in the Army National Guard. In 1969 they returned to Winnebago, where they farmed until 1995. In March of that year they moved to Las Vegas NV, moving to Pender NE in 1996. Since 2011, Bob and Jan have lived in Belle Fourche. In October of 2023, Jan was diagnosed with an inoperable aneurysm that quickly progressed.
Jan is survived by her husband, Bob of Belle Fourche; daughters, Sara (Kevin) Leinart of Dakota City NE, Carolyn (Troy Johnson) Stansberry of Belle Fourche, Janel (Mike) Peebles of Fort Collins CO; 6 grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Ralph "RJ" (Sherri) Norris of Homer NE. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Denise Stansberry; sister, Jane Frigge; and brothers, Wade and Jeff Norris.
