Maryann Bappe
Kingsley, Iowa
Maryann Bappe, 87, of Kingsley, passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020, at Kingsley Specialty Care in Kingsley, ending her battle with Alzheimers. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, with family present, at Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley. Social distancing and masks are required. Online condolences may be sent to rohdefh.com.
Maryann was born to Laura (Mace) and Henry Schuldt on Sept. 29, 1933, on a farm in rural Kingsley, Iowa. She attended Woodbury Central High where she excelled in academics, earning the role of Valedictorian of her Senior Class. After high school, Maryann moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where she worked at the Area Education Agency as the assistant to the Superintendent of Schools.
In 1956, Maryann married her high school sweetheart, Glenn Bappe, and after returning from the service, they made their home on the Bappe family farm. Maryann and Glenn welcomed two children, Scott and Karen. Throughout the years, Maryann was a strong partner in the family business. She did the accounting, cooked for family and hired help, and would often be found in the barn and the bean field.
Maryann was small but mighty. She loved to read and always was ready with a clever joke. She supported her husband's car hobby and rarely complained about the hours she would wait outside of salvage yards, swap meets, and car shows. Maryann adored her grandchildren and loved to shop with her sisters.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Glenn; her son, Scott (Kate); her daughter, Karen; her seven grandchildren; her sisters, Dorothy and Laura; and nieces and nephews.
Maryann was preceded in death by her parents, mother and father in-law, and her siblings Bob, Ruth and Tom.

Glenn, Scott, Karen and family, I just reviewed Maryann's on line Keepsake Video Memorial and I must say it brought a smile to my face. Heartache...indeed, but you must be so proud of your wife, partner, and friend, mother and grandmother. What a fun, smart, petite and wonderful gal. I feel blessed and honored to have known her. My deepest, heartfelt sympathy to you Glenn and to the entire family. Susan and I will forever miss our spunky travel companion, but never forget her. Godspeed Maryann. Brad Duerst

Glenn and family, My heartfelt condolences to you Glenn, Scott, Karen and all the family and friends. I am so thankful for getting to meet you both and having you in our lives. We had some many wonderful adventures together and times on the farm. I treasure our "girl time" we got to have while the guys were doing their "car" thing. We had many wonderful talks and shopping times and I will always remember you being by your husband's side as his wife and companion. Maryann always had a smile on her face and a way of making you feel right at home. We will forever miss this dear one and will hold you close to our hearts and in our prayers. Love to you all, Susan Duerst

I am so sorry for your loss. I loved seeing you and your Mrs. come into Sam's Club. I smile thinking about all the times she said to me I don't eat anything healthy, pointing at you that you are the healthy eater, just chatting with both of you. I will surely miss her. Anyone could see how you adored each other. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers
