Shirley J. Livingston
South Sioux City
Shirley J. Livingston, 91, of South Sioux City passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at her residence.
Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Newcastle, Neb. Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Shirley was born on July 11, 1930, in Newcastle to Oscar and Effie (Flom) Wendte. She grew up on the Wendte farm in Newcastle, then moved to South Sioux City after she married Robert Livingston on Dec. 14, 1957. She proudly worked for 34 years at Northwestern Bell, taking on multiple positions throughout her time with the company.
Shirley was a member of First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. She had weekly Wednesday outings with her friends at the American Legion hall, and she truly cherished those get-togethers. She loved to play slot machines with friends (and was very good!), and could be found playing poker with her family on holidays. Shirley loved her grandchildren with her whole heart; her family meant everything to her, and they adored her. She was a beautiful soul, inside and out, with an infectious personality that could brighten up any room.
She is survived by her children, Patrick Livingston (Susie), Michael Oscar Livingston, and Roxanne Livingston, all of South Sioux City; Gary, who held a special place in her heart; grandchildren, Brooke, J.J., Ryan, Beau, Andy, and Grant; 14 great-grandchildren and one more on the way; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Wendte of Newcastle; and sister, Connie Voss of Lincoln, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Livingston, in 2000; her parents, Oscar and Effie Wendte; and four siblings, Lyle Wendte, Faye Marron, Junealee Voss, and Jim Wendte.
