Alison Schomburg Obituary

Alison Parchman Schomburg 2016
CINCINNATI, OH - On Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, Alison Parchman Schomburg of Cincinnati, Ohio, ended her earthly battle with brain cancer. She was 62 years of age. She was welcomed into the Heavenly realm by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, where she heard the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
"Al," as she was known to her friends, graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1972 and from the University of Missouri—Columbia in 1976. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and an active alumnus.
She earned her second undergraduate degree in Alternative Education from Illinois State University in 2005. Alison taught Alternative Education classes in District 186 in Springfield, Ill., at Enos and Douglas schools. She was a beloved teacher and colleague at both schools. Alison continued to teach after moving to Cincinnati with her husband in 2015 and was diagnosed with brain cancer in early 2016.
Alison was preceded in death by her father, Ruell Bradford Parchman.
She is survived by her husband of 19 years, William (Bill) Schomburg; her children: Kelly Christine Howard Yates, son-in-law, Benjamin Yates, and the light of her life, granddaughter, Stella Yates of Springdale, Ark.; Jack "Jackson" Basden Howard III, and daughter-in-law, Lindsey Howard of Chicago, Ill.; and Spencer Oakes Howard of wherever the wind may blow him or his heart leads, but has spent the last ten months helping Bill care for his mother; her mother, Jacqueline Oakes Parchman of Kirkwood, Mo.; and her brother, Mark Bradford Parchman (wife, Sue Anne Dougherty) of Bend, Ore.
Alison's children and family were always her first loves. She had many second loves including her church, Hope Church in Springfield, Ill., and Christ the King Eastern Campus in Cincinnati, Ohio; her dogs, any northern-breed rescue, but especially Alaska Malamutes, currently Mia and Friday; her students and colleagues from 10 years as an alternative education teacher in Springfield, Ill.; the River Queens of STL; her Pi Beta Phi sisters; her childhood, high school, and college friends and relationships in and around Kirkwood, Mo.; humming birds, vacations, holidays and any time spent with family.
If you met her, you will never forget her. Her kindness, her smile, and her sense of humor were infectious and legendary. She left the world a better place. Her constant prayer was, for those who don't know Jesus Christ, that the Holy Spirit enter their lives.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at Hope Church in Springfield, Ill., and 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Greentree Church in Kirkwood, Mo.
Additional information will be announced via her Facebook updates page, and also on her husband's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/william.schomburg.7.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund for alternative education students will be established in Alison's name. Details will be made available on the FB page or via email to [email protected].

Alison was a hardworking, devoted and loving mother. I was a kindergarten aide when Jackson was in kindergarten and my daughter, Jodi, had him in 4th grade. She always looked so pretty and classy. Jodi and I send our thoughts and prayers for you all at this difficult time. She will always be remembered.
