Elizabeth Couts
SPRINGFIELD - Catherine Elizabeth Couts, 94, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord at 12:38 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Heritage Health. She was born June 26, 1918, in Pettis County, MO to Miles Monroe and Rose Ann Lawson Curry. She married Ralph L. Reed and he preceded her in death. She later married Walter S. Couts and he also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Joyce A. Gunderson of Springfield; two sons, Wallace H. (Doris) Reed and David (Tammy) Couts both of Springfield; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both husbands; one son, Ralph M. Reed; one daughter, Carol E. Black; one granddaughter, Christa Rose Reed; four brothers and five sisters.
Catherine was of the Baptist faith. She has been a resident of Springfield since 1963. Prior to that she lived in Sedalia and Jefferson City, MO. She volunteered for eight years at St. John's Breadline. She retired at the age of 81 from Kings Daughters Home where she worked for 40 years as an LPN.
Visitation: 9-10 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home with Minister Seth Schnautz officiating. Burial will follow at Brittin Cemetery in Cantrall, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Breadline or a charity of the donor's choice.
