SPRINGFIELD - Edward Lee Mansfield, 72, of Springfield, died at 11:11 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.
Edward was born Oct. 13, 1935, in Hillsboro, the son of Everett and Tobitha Bremer Mansfield. He married Lois B. Johnson in Litchfield on June 7, 1969.
Edward was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve. He was employed at Sangamon Paper Co. in Taylorville for 13 years from 1953 to 1966. Edward then worked at Marine Bank from 1967 to 1969. From 1969 to 1998 he was employed at the Illinois Department of Revenue until his retirement after 29 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Louis, John, Samuel and Raymond Mansfield; and a sister, Frances Bayne.
Edward is survived by his wife, Lois Mansfield of Springfield; his brother, Benjamin (Vicki) Mansfield of Taylorville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. Sixth St. An additional visitation will be held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2750 Sangamon Ave., Springfield.
Funeral ceremonies will be held at the church at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, with Pastor Darrell L. Debowey, officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be provided by the United States Department of Defense.
Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2750 Sangamon Ave., Springfield, IL 62702.

Lois, Ed was a great man, friend and truly will be missed by me.
I am glad I had those many years working next to Ed at Revenue and getting to share the stories Ed loved to tell about growing up in Hillsboro.

Lois, my heart goes out to you. My late father and Ed were friends and met at Illinois Department of Revenue. Dad always considered you both very good friends. If you need anything please do not hesitate to contact us. Ed is rejoiceing in heaven and may his spirit always surround you. I know you have many great memories of your lives together.
