HOUSTON, TX - Eugene John "Gene" Gessert, born Aug. 6, 1934, passed away Oct. 3, 2015, in Houston, Texas.
He was born and raised in Portsmouth, Iowa, and married Rita Mechura on July 21, 1956.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rita, of 59 years; sons, Robert (Lise) and Kelly (Ann); daughters, Lori Meador (Mark) and Stacey Downs (Daryl); eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass was held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Houston, Texas on Oct. 8, 2015.

I want to extend my sympathy to the family of
Gene Gessert and especially to his wife Rita. He always brought brightness into the day when ever I saw him. I know he is missed.
