Florence L. Swann

GILLESPIE - Florence L. Swann, 89, of Gillespie, died at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, on July 16. She was born on August 4, 1921, in Litchfield to Pompeo & Anna (Ladame) Bernardi. She graduated from Benld High School in 1939. Florence chose the secretarial profession and was employed by the State of IL for 10 years. Florence married Donald H. Swann on July 26, 1952 in Litchfield. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2010. After marrying her beloved Donald and raising 3 children she returned to work as the secretary to the Hospital Administrator in Staunton, IL until her retirement at age 72. She was a devoted wife, mom, grandma and great grandma who loved her family and her home. Florence was a member of SS Simon & Jude Catholic Church and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 4547 of Gillespie. She is survived by her sons, Donald B. (spouse, Connie) Swann of Gillespie, Dale (spouse, Tina) Swann of Springfield, daughter, Denise (spouse, John) Hartnett of Springfield, grandchildren, Kelly, Kyle, Adam, Anthony, Angelina, Cecily, great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Anna, Samantha & Matthew. In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by her brother, Al Bernardi. Visitation will be July 19 at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie from 5pm until 8pm. Prayer Services will be held at 7:30pm. Funeral Services are July 20 at 10 am at SS Simon and Jude Church, Gillespie. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Gillespie. Memorials are suggested to SS Simon and Jude Altar Society or VFW Post 4547 of Gillespie.
