GIRARD - Frank McGuire Brya, 85, of Girard (formerly of Champaign), passed away at 12:30 p.m. February 19, 2010, at Hospice Care, St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL.
Frank was born in Decatur, a son of Frank G. and Julia A. Brya.
After graduation from Champaign High School, Frank enlisted in the Navy and served as an engineer during WWII. His main theatre of service being D-Day and the coast of Normandy, France.
He married Ellen J. Feeney on Sept. 1, 1951. She died on June 6, 1999.
In 1955, Frank and his brother, Dennis A. Brya, organized Brya Insurance Agency as brokers for Pekin Insurance. Frank retired in 1992.
He is survived by daughters, Suellen Brya Fink (Steve) of Cullom, IL and Annette Brya Edwards of Girard; one brother, Dennis A. Brya of Champaign; two sisters, Julann Condit of Henry, IL and Sr. Mary Elizabeth Brya of Riverton, IL; eight grandchildren, Amy Fink, Steven (Sara) Fink, Adam Edwards, Bryan (Katrina) Edwards, 2nd Lt. Matthew Fink, Sarah Fink, Grace Edwards and Claire Fink; and one great-grandchild, Paxton Edwards.
The visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 24 from 5-7 p.m., with a parish wake service at 4:30, at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church (403 W. Clark, Champaign). Rev. Fr. Stephen Willard will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Ivesdale. Military rites will be accorded.
Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Girard or St. John's Hospital Hospice.
