Frank McDermott
Frank McDermott, 80, of Springfield, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at St. Johns Hospital.
Frank was born July 18, 1930 in Springfield, the son of Senator Frank "Bull" and Katherine Kilcummings McDermott. He married Vera J. Jett-Fox on May 2, 1970 in Auburn.
Frank served his country in the U.S. Air Force and worked as a home builder in the late 50's & 60's having built many Springfield area homes. He later became owner/operator of McDermott & Son Insulation for many years and also co-owned Wee Care Day Care in Springfield. He was a charter member of the KC Hall #4179 and also a member of the Elks Club. In addition to watching westerns on TV, Frank loved to fish and garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Ray Griffitts.
He is survived by his wife, Vera of Springfield; son, Richard (wife, Carol) Fox of Oshkosh, WI; foster son, Bryan Lewis of Springfield; daughters, Pamela Griffitts of Springfield and Juanita (husband, Mark) Jones of Loami; four grandchildren, Ryan (wife, Jennifer) Sergent of Springfield, Todd Sergent of Loami, Charissa Fox of Oshkosh, WI and Cameron Jones of Loami; two great-grandchildren, Breanne South and Laila Sergent; great-great-grandchild, Shawn South; sister, Mary Kay Coder of Washington DC, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
The funeral ceremony will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 11, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Gifford officiating.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Vera, and family, My condolences in your time of sorrow. I have known frank for about 25 yrs now. Though I havent been as close lately, I grew up attending Wee Care, I lost my sister while she was working for you in '91. I remember Frank as being the maintenance guy at Wee Care and always knowing the right things to say regardless of the situation. In closing I hope you, Bryan, Pam, and for life of me I cant remember the other daughter( please forgive me ). I hope this finds you all doing well. And Frank Thank you for being a wonderful memory of my life as Ive had a rough go of it. Thank You.
Frank's a "one of a kind", and we're sure going to miss him!!

Vera, I remember Frank well from the KC club and grew up in Auburn. I went to school with your kids and played football with Richard. I hope the years have been kind to you and Frank. He will always be remembered. Please pass my condolances to the kids.
