James Coughlin

SPRINGFIELD - James (Jim) William Coughlin, 86, born on February 3, 1926 to Thomas and Rachel Coughlin in Springfield , Illinois. He passed away on May 20, 2012 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Thomas Coughlin and a nephew Gary Coughlin, both of Bossier City, Louisiana.

He is survived by his loving wife, Emily, of 53 years and three children; Thomas(Jenny) Coughlin, Karen(Jim) Bragg and Mavis(Joe) Gorley, all of Albuquerque: grandchildren, Megan Coughlin, James and Samantha Gorley.

He is survived by his brother Paul(Shelley) Coughlin of Springfield, Illinois ; Nephews Ryan and Kyle Coughlin and niece Erin Coughlin, all of Springfield and a niece Debra Krepak of Bossier City, Louisiana.

Jim was a graduate of Cathedral Boys High School, a World War II veteran and played violin for the Gray Gordon band in the late 1940's. He moved to Albuquerque in 1950 and worked as a technical writer for Sandia National Laboratories for 38 years. An accomplished violinist, he competed in the Old Time Fiddle Contest in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Jim was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion Post 49 in Albuquerque.

Jim and Emily traveled extensively after his retirement. Jim enjoyed the company of his Springer Spaniel, Foxy, and hobbies included making adobes, wood carving and watching and reading westerns. Jim was a generous, quiet and loving person, a very devoted family man.

Cremation took place with Memorial Services held on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 10:00 am at French-Lomas Chapel in Albuquerque. Internment took place at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Saturday, May 26, 2012
