SPRINGFIELD - James M. Eby, 86, of Springfield, formerly of Streator and LeRoy, died Tuesday March 23, 2010, at St. John's Hospital.
He was born in Aurora, IL, February 15, 1924, the son of George and Helen Harvey Eby.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Clifford.
He married Barbara Hitchell in Streator, IL on May 26, 1946.
Jim served in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked in municipal equipment development and sales most of his life at Anthony Co. and Peabody Myers Co., both in Streator. He then became an over the road driver for Shields Co. in Rantoul. In retirement, he was a courier for Complete Care Pharmacy, a subsidiary of H.D. Smith Co. in Springfield.
He was a member of the Chatham Presbyterian Church, a past elder and deacon at the Presbyterian Church in Streator. He was a member and president of the Streator Elementary School Board, a 50-year member and Worshipful Master of the Streator Masonic Lodge 607 AF&AM and a member of the LeRoy Lodge 221 AF&AM, and a member of High Twelve in Springfield.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara; three sons, James C. (wife, Lisa) Eby of Elgin, IL, John M. Eby of Savoy, IL and Joseph H. (wife, Susan) Eby of Springfield; also three grandchildren, Aaron Gersonde of Boone, NC, Webster Eby of Elgin and Margaret Eby of Springfield.
Cremation rites will be accorded by the Bisch Crematory.
A visitation will be at the Chatham Presbyterian Church, 1835 E. Walnut, Chatham, IL on Friday, March 26, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial services there at 12 noon. Rev. Dr. Joseph H. Eby will officiate. Inurnment will be Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in Camp Butler National Cemetery. The Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will provide military honors.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions to the Chatham Presbyterian Church, 1835 E. Walnut St., Chatham, IL 62629.
