SPRINGFIELD, IL - Joan Maxine (Booker) Baker, 74, died at 2:25 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, at St. John's Intensive Care Unit.

She was born March 4, 1940, in Springfield, to Fred and Eilene (Ramalow) Grobelnik.

She is survived by two sons, James (Cheri) Baker and Timothy (Jan) Baker; one daughter, Tammy Baker; five grandchildren: Melissa (Wes) Smith, Timothy Jr., Joshua, Elizabeth (Matthew) Seago and Matthew (Kersten) Baker; two great-grandchildren, Hope and Faith Donnelly; one brother, Robert (Lillie) Grobelnik; one sister, Penny Bush; two sisters-in-law, Rhonda (Freddie) Grobelnik and Jayne (Tony) Angeli; one brother-in-law, Dick Micko; and several nieces and nephews, all of Springfield.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Baker; sister, Linda Micko; and brother, Freddie Grobelnik.

Joan was a member of St. Cabrini Catholic Church. She worked at Osco Drug until retirement and was a winner of many plaques that honored her abilities. She was also an avid TV watcher of judge shows and Dr. Phil. In the summer she took great pride in watering and trimming her roses and flowers. Joan loved giving gifts and watching while her children and grandchildren opened presents.

She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, Karen, Patty, Annie and Butch. They referred to themselves as Butch and his four "Golden Girls." She enjoyed sitting on the porch and talking with her friends and taking her dog, Peabody, on walks with her friends and their four-legged companions.

Private graveside services will be held at Calvary Cemetery with Father Richard Chiola officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to: The American Cancer Society.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I had just thought about Joan this week end when looking at my Mother of Fatima statue, thinking of the laughs her and I had riding the bus on Wednesday evenings to Sacred Heart church to sing for the weekly novena. We took cool aid in a glass jar to drink while waiting for the bus.Blessing to you and her. She was fun.

Dear Baker Family --
I was very privileged to work with Joan at Osco. She was a kind and generous coworker. She had the best most pragmatic sense of humor and was much loved by everyone. I am so glad I knew her. Prayers for you all. God bless.
