Doctor Holland took care of me from th time I was a little girl. When I became pregnant with my first child, he took good care of me but also teased me a lot.He helped me through a difficult pregnancy and delivery with professionalism and respect.
i just found out about his passing when I spoke to a relative the other day. The funny thing about that, is he was in my thoughts anyway last week and I thought of looking him up on the internet. To me, this just shows how much he touched many people. I live in Arizona now but my thoughts will be with all of you for your loss. If we remember the many gifts he gave all of us, this might help with the loss. God bless all of you.
September 2, 2010
My sincerest sympathy for your loss. Dr. Holland was my doctor and my six siblings. I remember many times him coming out to our house to make house calls. There were seven of us so my family kept him very busy. He was a genuine article. I will always remember him with great admiration. May God comfort you in the days ahead.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. Holland. To a man who was an encourager and, who devoted much of his life to EMS and the advancement of all of his students. I was in his paramedic class in 1984, and his influence is still felt today. Thank you Dr. Holland--you will be missed but never forgotten! Dennis Wilham (Chestnut, Il)

Dear Louise and family,
You have my deepest sympathies. Doc was a truely great man. He, along with your entire family, did so much for us when our little girl was diagnosed with a deadly brain tumor in 1994. I know he was very busy as medical director at the time but somehow he made time to check on her care at St. Johns. We are so glad to have had the priviledge of knowing him.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Dr Holland. My father, Dr Earl Donelan, worked with him over the years and had the deepest respect for him. My family was very fortunate that Dr. Holland was with Hospice when my mother passed away in 2002 and when my father went into Hospice Care a year before he passed. My father would light up when his friend, John came to see him and they would talk about the old days. Dr Holland's passing is a great loss, but I am sure that he is surrounded in heaven by a loving, grateful group of souls.

Louise & family,
I was saddened to hear of your loss. Even though I was never an actual patient of Doc's, other than maybe a few phone calls with medical questions, I still have seen and heard so many stories about him and his sincere dedication to his patients, family, friends, church, and community. He has definitely shown us how to live out a committed Christian life and served the Lord through his actions and from his heart. I feel very blessed to have known him through church and He will be greatly missed by so many. Praying that you will experience God's peace, knowing that your loved one is now experiencing all the joys of Heaven, free from pain, and in the presence of our Heavenly Father, who has definitely said to him, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Psalms 23:6--"I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
August 29, 2010
Dear Louise and family, I'm truly saddened by the news of Doc's passing. I know he's in the arms of our Heavenly Father. He helped me so much in '06, when my husband was in the truly remarkable program called Hospice. So many people loved Doc for his unselfish caring, of all who needed it. I am one of them.
Thank you, Doc. I will miss your smile at Cherry Hills.

Dear Louise and Family, We came to Springfield in 1959 as directors of Youth for Christ. One of the first families we met at the old South Seventh Street Baptist Church were you and dear Doc Holland. You have been special supporters of us and our ministries as we went from YFC on to New Tribes Mission, and we are eternally grateful to the Lord for your friendship and love. May our Loving Shepherd give you extra strength and grace during these days.

Dr. Holland delivered all three of my children, Thomas jr.,Nancy (Hamende)and James. When he told me that "I am no longer going to be a "Baby" doctor, I was devastated. He said "Barb, there are many other good doctors out there". I told him then and I will say it again "No, there is no one like you".
God will surely welcome you with open arms and bless your family during this time.

I have never met any of Dr. Holland's family but I would like you all to know what a presence he was in my life. It began when he and Dr. Lafata recruited my father into Physician's Group in 1962. I often heard my dad speak very highly of him. In the 70's, I was working as an RN at St. John's, where he was Medical Director. He WAS the face of St. John's for many, many years. In the late 80's I became the head nurse for District 186. I could always count on Dr. Holland to volunteer to do free school physicals on many kids who could not afford it. I remember working with him and Sr. Anne Carlino to start the St. John's Clinic for Kids at around the same time. I had the utmost respect for him and enjoyed Dr. Holland's demeanor and slight southern accent very much. He lived his faith by serving others. He will be remembered well!

Dr. Holland was my doctor when I was born. He was also the doctor for my siblings. When my mother would take me to see him he would tell the nurses to "come in and see my little fat baby". My mom said he would say it with warmth in his voice never in a bad way. He also was there when my brother was in hospice. It was nice to know that he cared for him when he entered the world and also when he left this world. That comforted us all that he was there. My sincerest condolences to his family. He was a wonderful person.

Dear Louise and family,
Although I have not kept in touch with Dr. Holland over the years except through conversations with Wilma, I have always had in my mind what a wonderful person he was. I took every child I knew to him for treatment or sent the parents to him with the child during the time he was with the Physicians Group. He was the great listener and diagnostician. May the Lord bless and keep you in your loss of a wonderful husband and father.

To the family of Dr. Holland & his Hospice family...
Like so many others have posted, Dr. Holland was a pediatrician for both my children until he left that practice. Then, in 1999 I was priviliged to have him caring for my mother in hospice and again in 2008 for my father-in-law.
He was a gentle, kind, caring doctor and person. He was one of those people that made this world a better place. Please accept our condolences.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Holland for years at St. John's. He always focused on our patients and made sure they received the best care. Years later he cared for my father in Hospice and touched all of my family with his kindness and compassion. He was a great physician, leader and colleague! My thoughts and prayers go out to the Holland family and to Doc Holland's "extended" family. We will miss him very much.

My prayers are with all of your family. John was such a great man and walked with God in close fellowship. Though he was a wonderful physician, his real measure was in his compassion, energy, empathy and enjoying the fun things in life. We are all so much better for having known him and now Doc can ask God those pesky questions that only God can answer.

To The Holland Family,
I was blessed to know Dr. Holland, first as a Pedi Doc to my son, then I worked at St. Johns Hospital and would see him from time to time, and the last time was approx a yr ago when he took care of a special friend of mine and my dear father when they were in hospice. He had a heart of gold! He was an angel on earth as he is now in heaven. What a special guy. Thank you Doc. My heart goes out to your family-at home and at hospice. They will all miss that bright smiling face. You will always be remembered as a man of God and a wonderful, compassionate doctor who understood the patients and their families needs. Dr. Holland's Family:
I first met Dr. Holland at The Learning Nook Pre-school. He would come and talk with the children about smoking and how it was not good for you. He had a such a way with the children. In later years our paths would cross again as he would see my mother through her journey to Heaven making her last days as comfortable as could be. What a remarkable man, I am sure his kind soul is welcomed into the arms of God.He will be sadly missed.

Dr. Holland not only was the pediatrian for myself and my 4 siblings 40+ years ago, but he also came back into our lives almost 2 years ago when my mom spent the last 2 1/2 months of her life in St. John's Hospice. He could always bring a smile to mom's face when he came in to see her! He was, without a doubt, one of the kindest, gentlest, and most caring men I have ever met. My condolences to Dr Hollands family.
He was my daughters pediatrician when she was a baby. I simply adored that man and trusted my daughters life in his hands. I was devastated when he left his practice, but so happy for him to march forward and fulfil his dream. What a wonderful man, his legacy will be here forever.
Thank you Dr Holland, thank you!

Dr. Holland contributed greatly to our community and to many families including my own family. He came to our Mother's visitation service along with Dr. LaFata and Dr. Harp. He delivered my first child, my daughter Jill and saved my life and hers. He was the best Pediatrician to all four of my children. My youngest daughter, Monica, was his last patient at Physician's Group that day he "retired" from practice in that capacity. I baked Italian cookies to give to him at Monica's last pediatric visit and he said "Carol, you are just like your Mother, bringing pizelles to me". He worked so many countless hours helping others as a dedicated physician and a caring Christian man. We were all so blessed to know and love him. My condolences to his family.
