Coach Sowinski taught me how to tackle, but more importantly how to respect others as well as myself. I received a great education at SHG between the hours of 8-3, but learned how to survive and flourish between the hours of 4-6 during practice. I remember coach said," if you are going to take the time to do something, you might as well do it better than everyone else"- I apply this too everything I do, everyday. Thank you Coach, you will never be forgotten.

My condolences to your family.

Mr. Sowinski will live on in the hearts and characters of all those students he taught and coached over the last several decades, myself being one of them. I remember his history classes at SHS 1971-1973 and his awarding me my only A+, ever, on a report card. I fell in love with history because he made me a believer in my power to achieve personal excellence…that was the John Sowinski I will always remember.
