L. Dale Wood, Sr.

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Dale passed away at St. John's Hospice on Sunday, July 14, 2013. He was born Jan. 5, 1933, to H. Merlon and Daisy Lee Wood. He married Mary Ellen Smith on June 20, 1953, at Ft. Bliss, Texas.

Surviving Dale are his wife; daughters, Sue (Greg) Englert of Charlotte, N.C. and Jonie DeMarco of Springfield; sons: Dale Jr. (Debbie) Wood of Camdenton, Mo., Craig Wood of Springfield and Grant (Christie) Wood of Springfield; eight grandchildren: Collette (Craig) Palmer, Lauren (Jeff) Bennett, Nick DeMarco, Alexandra Wood, Ross Englert, Connor Wood, and Danielle and Luke Wood; and one great-granddaughter, Zoey Palmer.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary, and his parents.

He owned and operated Dale Wood Heating and Air-Conditioning for 50 years. Next to his family, his greatest pride was serving in the United States Army.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Hospice.

Visitation: 4–7 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home.

Graveside Service: 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Saddened to see of Dale' s death. He was one of the nicest and most honest person our family knew. Dad and mom had great respect for Dale and always counted on him when the heat or air needed work. Truly he was a member of the Greatest Generation.
