Ladislaus "Laslo" Lewis Hunyady 1930 - 2017
MATTESON, IL - Ladislaus "Laslo" Lewis Hunyady, 86, of Matteson, passed away at 10:18 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
He was born Dec. 27, 1930, in Fountain Hill, Penn., the son of Laszlo and Mary (Samley) Hunyady. He married Eleanor H. Wuchter on July 28, 1956, in Kutztown, Penn.
He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Heidelberg College and his Bachelor of Divinity from Lancaster Seminary. He previously served as a Pastor at several churches for the United Church of Christ; he was a member of St. Paul Community Church in Homewood and the Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ.
Laslo also worked for the American Library Association, and the American Medical Association as a Permission Editor for the Journal of the American Medical Association. He authored a book, "Trek Through Time", a historic look at many "firsts" that have occurred in our world.
In his free time, he enjoyed playing FreeCell, Sudoku, Spider Solitaire, crossword puzzles, and board games, especially those produced by Avalon Hill.
He previously was a member of the Lion's Club.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Hunyady of Matteson; daughter, Sheila Rhodes (Steven) of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Janice Hunyady of Northport, Mich.; and sister, Dawn Priscilla Hunyady of Colonia, N.J.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dean Laslo Hunyady; and stepmother, Barbara Hunyady.
Mr. Hunyady will be cremated and a private family memorial service will be held.
