Mary Kulek Obituary
Springfield, IL—Mary A. Kulek, 89, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 2, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center with her family by her side.
Mary was born on August 19, 1928 in Argyle, MN, the daughter of Frank and Irene Bordenkircher Duncheon. She married Edmond James Kulek on October 7, 1950 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church; he preceded her in death in 1962.
Mary was a 1946 graduate of Ursuline Academy. She retired from the IL Commerce Commission in 1990.
Mary was the center of the Kulek family. Family was everything to her and nothing made her happier than the frequent get togethers with her children and grandchildren. Mary was a warm and loving mother and grandmother who welcomed everyone into her extended family. She was a very sweet woman who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Donald Kulek; her parents; two sisters, June and Rose Duncheon; and three brothers, Francis, Jerome, and Charles "Buddy" Duncheon.
She is survived by her children, Jean (husband, Jim) Donelan of Downers Grove, IL, Ron (wife, Cindy) Kulek of Riverton, John (wife, Linda) Kulek of Petersburg, and Patty (husband, Todd) Riplinger of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; three siblings, Carole (husband, Jim) Skufca of Springfield, Donna (husband, Don) Robinson of Springfield, and Teresa Heimlich of Lakeland, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to her in-home caregivers and the medical staff at Memorial Medical Center.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2000 East Sangamon Avenue, Springfield with Rev. Clint Honkomp, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Villa Angela Home for Girls, 715 N. 4th St., Springfield, IL 62702 or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Illinois Chapter, Attn: Memorials & Tributes, 1 N. LaSalle St., Suite 1200, Chicago, IL 60602.

Walt and I want to extend our sincerest sympathy on the loss of your Mom. What an amazing lady!!!!. She was a great example of perseverence and did a remarkable job of raising her family. I always was eager to help out when she needed a baby sitter. I will never forget her beautiful smile.

I was an in-home caregiver for Miss Mary, it was a pleasure getting to know her. I will miss her dearly. Thank you for letting me be apart of her life. I'm so sorry for the loss.
