Matthew Noonan Obituary

Matthew Kealoha Noonan 2019
Auburn, IL—Matthew Kealoha Noonan, age 46, passed away on March 27th, 2019, from a heart attack while being cared for at the Auburn Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. Matthew, often called Matt by his friends, was adopted in Hawaii by Bill and Emily Noonan a few weeks after birth. From an early age, Matthew was fascinated with helping people. When he played with toy cars he always drove the ambulance, rescuing those in need. As a teenager, he would watch standup comedy on TV after bedtime, testing out the jokes on his family the next morning. These traits were reflected in his varied career path, where he served as a police officer, an EMT, and also a taxi driver, always with a story on his lips. Matthew leaves behind his mother Emily, his sister Christine, his brothers Andrew and Joseph, and a long list of caring relatives and friends. His ashes will be scattered in a private ceremony alongside his father's ashes. His boisterous laughter will be missed by all who knew him.

Matt ...Hey You
Two years my dearest, best friend. Two years of moons and stars and music and poems that are locked in my heart to share with you someday. Time doesn't make it easier. It only serves to create more one-sided moments that make your absence hurt over and over. Somewhere over the years we both doubled and divided. I am not entirely sure who I am without you.
Missing you something fierce.

I thought of you over the holidays and so many memories flooded back. How many years we'd share It's A Wonderful Life;the hysterically funny stories you'd share about shopping excursions; the touching stories you'd share about your faith.
I miss you my friend...so very, very much.

Thankful today for all the memories of our friendship. No one made me laugh harder or feel deeper; no one made me challenge my own limitations so much or explore life with such wonder. You were the greatest of gifts in my life and I miss you every single day.

Emily, Owen B. told me of your sad news. I have thought of you often during the past years, grieving with you over the loss of Bill and now feel your grief upon grief. Praying that you will experience grace upon grace. Love you!--Ginny Dyson

Matt was my best friend for over 15 years. He was the most selfless person and gave of his time, his attention, his love and patience consistently and with such an open heart. He knew instinctively the right thing to say and when to let me ponder things with his quiet support. He championed the underdog and his enormous heart encircled everyone.
I am so lost without him. He is irreplaceable. Our shared love of books and movies and our conversations about everything from philosophy to puns gave me endless hours of laughter and introspection and delight. We spoke in our own shorthand..so easily could we feel the others thoughts and moods across the miles that it wasn't at all uncommon to have Matt reach out to me and say " I felt you last night.." and be amazingly accurate. His heart and his empathy were quite simply that unlimited.

My dearest "MattNow"..my "Skew"...You filled my heart and my life. You taught me and lifted me up and lit the way for me. You showed me what unconditional love is and how to be fearless in expressing it to all I meet. You were courageous and instilled in me the joy to be found in the smallest of things; a cool glass of sun tea on a hot summer day, the windows down and the radio up on a road trip, the delight in finding an old favorite book in a used bookstore. You introduced me to poems and music and authors and everywhere I look in my life, there are your fingerprints. I see you everywhere, my friend and you forever changed my life for the better. I don't say goodbye...I can't...but I will sign off our favorite way, until we meet again and we dance that tango in the rain.
Love And A Cold Dr. Pepper On A Hot Summer Day,
Seth
