Mike Melton
GIRARD - Mike Melton, 62, of Girard, passed away Friday morning, February 15, 2013, at his residence in Girard, IL.
Mike was born on October 20, 1950, to Harry and Alice (Leer) Melton in Honolulu, HI. He graduated from Petersburg High School with the class of 1969 and attended 4 years of college. Mike also served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He married Karen Johnson on June 2, 1973, in Forsyth, IL.
Mike was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Springfield for 25 years and enjoyed playing golf in his spare time.
Mike is survived by two sons, Shane Melton (Mindy) of Girard and Daniel Melton of Thayer; grandson, Ford; mother, Alice Melton of Springfield, IL; two brothers, Pat Melton (Sara) of Petersburg, IL, and Harry Melton (Teresa) of Florissant, MO; sister, Christine Melton of Utah; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Harry Melton.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Inter Veterans Burial Detail.
Memorials are suggested to the Oak Leaf Country Club.

Although I never saw Mike after we graduated from high school, he was a good friend during those years.When Mike decided to do something, he did it and put a tremendous effort forth to do it. I am happy that I was a friend of his during those high school years and my prayers are with you.
