SPRINGFIELD, IL - Robert "Bob" Gerstung, 55, of Springfield, passed peacefully at 7:08 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
Bob was born June 19, 1960, in Waukegan, the son of Ralph and Gayle Gerstung. He married Karen Manion on Aug. 21, 1987, in Springfield.
Bob worked as an Anesthesia Tech in Surgery at Memorial Medical Center for over 32 years, retiring in 2008.
He enjoyed working in the yard, on cars, on their home, fishing, action movies, and was known as a grillmaster.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Eddie.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; two sons, Chad and Cody Gerstung; one stepson, Ryne Manion; two granddaughters, Amberee and Riley; his beloved dog, Sophie; brothers, James (Reta), Loran (Jackie), and Tim (Misha) Provo; sisters, Sue (the late David) Dominguez, Delree (Bill) Clark, Deborah (Roy) Hoffmann, Selma Eckard, Connie (Steve) Coy, Karen Center and Liz (Tony) McCulley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private family ceremonies will be held.

Dear Gerstung Family,...sorry for your loss, Bobby was a really great easy going guy. He will be missed for sure. Growing up I remember how he always looked up to his big brothers/sisters and how tight your family was. He was lucky for that and now in God's hands he looks down upon you with all his love.
