Robert Clark Hadsell, 84, of Rochester, IL died at St. John's Hospital hospice, May 18, 2011 after a long illness.
Hadsell, son of Clark and Ethel (Edwards) Hadsell of Petersburg, Il was born on July 25, 1926 in Springfield. He graduated from Petersburg High school and went directly into the US Marine Corp, 1st Marine Division during WWII; he also served during the Korean War. He was among the first wave of Marines to land on the Japanese held islands of Okinawa, Peleliu and Ryukyu. He also participated in the occupation of China. Hadsell was Chief Project Engineer for the Titan 1 ballistic missile installation in several western states. After service he settled in Tucson, Az. where he was president of H&M Land Development. He was most proud of his development of the first assisted living nursing home exclusively for arthritic patients.
He retired from the State of IL after thirty-one years as chief engineer of the capitol complex. He was president and business agent of Operating Engineers Local #7 for more than twenty-five years. He was past commander of American Legion Post 198 in Petersburg and was a member of Ansar Shrine Petersburg, served on the board of directors of the American Red Cross in Springfield and was named volunteer of the year in 2000 by Sparc.
Bob loved camping, fishing, duck hunting, fine dining and playing black-jack. He was a member of the Rochester United Methodist Church.
Bob is survived by his wife Darlene: daughter, Lisa Dee (David) Ballengers of Thousand Oaks,CA.; step daughter, Laurie (Phil) Flood of Twin Lakes,WI; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death.
Memorials may be made to Rochester United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 22, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Wilson Park Funeral Home, Rochester, IL. Funeral services will be on Monday, May 23 at 12:00 noon at the Rochester United Methodist Church. Reverend Jack Swank is officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Wilson Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
