GIRARD – Steve "Mick" Stankoven, 89 of Girard, IL passed away at 8:59 p.m. Sunday August 15, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center Springfield, IL.
Mick was born March 11, 1921 in Gillespie, IL the son of Andrew and Sophia (Bostigal) Stankoven. He married Mary Ann Mitchell August 12, 1950 in Benld, IL. She passed away January 7, 2003. Also preceding was a sister, Marcella Smith and brothers, John, Andy, Gus and Dominic Stankoven.
Mick was a member of Sacred Heart Church Virden, IL and the Virden Knights of Columbus. Mick served with the U.S. Army 672nd Amphibian Tractor Battalion stationed in the Pacific during WW II. Mick and his wife Mary owned and operated Mick and Mary's Restaurant in Thayer, IL for 26 years.
Mick is survived by his two sons, Robert (Kathleen) Stankoven of Chatham, IL and Michael (Tamara) Stankoven of Bolingbrook, IL, 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday August 18, 2010 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home; Virden, IL with prayer services at 7:30 p.m... Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. August 19, 2010 at Sacred Heart Church, Virden, IL. Father Darin Zenhle officiating, memorial contributions may be made to the Virden Knights of Columbus. When I was in nursing school working at Mick and Mary's. No one was any better to me then your dad.He was a hard person to work for at times but the best boss I ever had. He and your mother were a pair. It truley is a end of a era..Keep in touch

bob i am sorry for the loss of your dad .i did not know untill today when i spoke with my siser pat that your mother had passed away also both of your parents were great people they lived a long life i know they realy touched the life of mine steve &virgina peregrin as they did many others .i will keep your family in our prayers.
