Viola Christell Obituary
NORTHBROOK, IL - Viola Arline Christell, 91, formerly of Niles and Des Plaines, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, in Northbrook, Ill.
Arline was born May 7, 1925, in Brownstown, Ill., to Junia Myrtle and Arden Ray Evans. She married Thomas B. Christell, Sr. on Jan. 15, 1949, in Chicago; he preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 2003.
Arline was a traditional housewife and stay-at-home mom for most of her life. Raising her three boys was a special responsibility that she took very seriously.
She was a longtime member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Park Ridge: teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, taking part in Bible Study opportunities, and helping out wherever and whenever she saw a need, serving in love and joy.
She loved travel, her bridge and poker clubs, and especially time with her family and friends. Later in life Arline worked outside the home at Schwarz Paper Company.
Arline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas; brothers: Lewis, Cleo, and Merrill Evans; and grandson, Matthew.
She is survived by her three sons: The Rev. Thomas B. (Patti) Christell Jr. of Springfield, Ill., Kevin L. (Linda) Christell of Glenview, and Craig E. (Michelle) Christell of Arlington Heights; seven grandchildren: Thomas B. (Erica) Christell III, Amy R. (Jason) Harshman, Chad M. (Elizabeth) Christell, Stephen D. (Katie) Christell, Katie B. (Gabriel) Gonzalez, Kathleen M. (John) Ryder, and Justin T. Christell; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Also surviving are her two sisters, Lorraine Hagen and Faye Ford, as well as many nieces and nephews, great-, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 7 at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Rd., Glenview.
Visitation will also be held Wednesday, Feb. 8 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 205 N. Prospect, Park Ridge. Interment will be at Ridgewood Cemetery.
