SPRINGFIELD, IL - Weldon "Cheese" Harris departed this life on Sept. 16, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born July 23, 1945, in Henning, Tenn., the son of Elnora Martin.
He was studying Jehovah. He served in the U.S. Army and Navy. He was a Chef for Boyd's and Econo Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elnora Martin; sister, Samella Higgins-Davis; brother, Leon Higgins Jr.; grandmother, Mattie Mitz; and his special pet, Stanley.
He leaves to cherish memories his companion, Josie Johnson; sons, Montwase Williams of St. Paul, Minn., and James (Amber) Bruner of Decatur, Ill.; daughters: Velicia (Lisa) Wallace of Mobile, Ala., Kimberly Harris of San Diego, Calif., and Shelia Harris of Springfield, Ill.; brothers: John (Lillie) Henderson of Springfield, Ill., Henry Hinton, Kenneth Higgins, and Robert (Shawnda) Martin; sisters: Mattie Ann Naugles (Sue Schlesinger) of St. Louis, Mo., Ruby Jean Higgins, Annie Higgins, Elnora Martin, Lannie Martin and Angela Higgins all of Springfield, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; aunts, Suzie Taylor of Springfield, Ill., and Linda Kay Reese of Toledo, Ohio; and uncle, Tommie Harris of Springfield, Ill.
Services will be held Tuesday Sept. 24, 2013, at Walker Funeral Service, 2300 E. Cook St., Springfield, IL 62703. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Walker Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
