Donald Edward Overway

Syracuse, New York - Donald Edward Overway, 76, of Syracuse, NY passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse on Saturday, July 15, 2023. He was born on January 8, 1947, in Mount Vernon, WA to the late Elmer and Virginia (Weaver) Overway. He attended school in LaConner except for the 3 years the family lived on San Juan Island, spent one year at the University of Washington, and graduated from Central Washington State College in 1970. He learned to fly his dad's small plane when he was 16, a passion which lasted his life. He became a commercial pilot, flight instructor and an administrator of pilot biennial certifications. In 1975 he became a partner in the Adler business machine and office supply franchise. In 1985 he designed a software program for small businesses that supported their accounting, inventory, and marketing needs. For the last 15 years he was well-known for his popular booth at the Syracuse Market and was also an on-call support/maintenance manager at his apartment. Don loved people, hunting, fishing, golf, and dogs. He leaves his older sister, Margaret (Gerald) Gunderson of Simsbury, CT; one nephew, David (Kimberly) Gunderson of Dallas, TX; one niece, Laura (James) Oliver of Simsbury; 2 grandnieces, Riley Gunderson and Brynna Oliver; 1 grandnephew, Jace Gunderson; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and so many friends. Along with most of his family, Don was part of a non-denominational, worldwide Christian fellowship that was the central focus of his life. A graveside service will be held at the Fir-Conway Lutheran Cemetery, 19084 Milltown Road, Mount Vernon, WA, on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11:00.
