DOUGLAS HORTON Obituary

June 8, 1956 - August 22, 2016

Douglas James Horton passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016 in Mount Vernon Washington.

He was born on June 8, 1956 in Seattle Washington, he was 60 years old.

He married Teri Joanne Engberg on September 16, 1978, they lived in Seattle and together they have two daughters, Lisa and Katie.

After earning a BA degree in business in 1983 from the UW he landed his first professional position at Washington Mutual in 1984. He left that position in 1989 to accept a position at Boeing Commercial Airplane. During this employment he conducted labor audits, coordinated multiple projects, supported high level engineers on the derivate designs across all of the commercial jets and lastly he was the business manager for the 787 jet.

In 2003 the family moved to Mount Vernon, soon thereafter he had to stop working for health reasons.

He provided love, protection and guidance for the family while running the household.

From 2007 to 2014 he also managed the care for his parents' health and daily living until Arch passed away in 2010 and Bea passed in 2014.

His health declined when he was diagnosed with lung cancer in July of this year that put him in the hospital.

Doug's hobbies included hunting, shooting, taking long drives, spending time with family and friends.

He was a loving husband and father. He was sought out for advice, love and support during good and difficult times. He set the tempo for a close loving family and to always clear the air when disagreements happened. Whenever we went on a trip or to special occasions, he always had a camera to take lots of pictures.

He is survived by his wife Teri Horton, daughters Lisa Horton and Katie Horton, and soon to be son-in-law Marc Camacho, brother David Horton, (wife Gaylynne), brother-in-laws Mike Engberg, Al Engberg (wife Noelle) and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Beatrice Horton.

The memorial service is on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Burlington Lutheran Church, 134 E Victoria Ave., Burlington, WA. Immediately after the service, there will be a dinner offered for all attendees at the Burlington Senior Citizen Center, 1011 Greenleaf Ave, Burlington, WA.
