Gordon VanDyken Obituary

Mount Vernon - Longtime Mount Vernon, Washington resident Gordon Van Dyken passed away peacefully at home with his wife, Carol by his side the morning of August 6, 2021.

Gordon's life ended here on earth after battling cancer for nearly 2 years. Throughout the struggle with cancer he remained confident in his Savior Jesus Christ and his future heavenly home.

Born in Ripon, California to Harry and Wilhemina Van Dyken, Gordon was eighth in the long line-up of ten children. Being the son of a pastor, Gordy moved around frequently which led him to Skagit Valley in 1973. Here he met and fell in love with his wife Carol Donovan. They loved playing cards and other activities with many different friends. Together they raised their four children in Conway on the same piece of property they have owned for 42 years.

Gordy worked in the concrete industry for the majority of his working career batching, driving mixer, and helping with concrete pours. In his free time Gordy was known for throwing himself into his hobbies and infecting those around him with excitement of them including: fishing, cycling, hunting, thrifting, bush-crafting and more.

A member of Summit Park Bible Church in Anacortes, Gordy was known as a kind and generous man and was quick to reach out to newcomers and make them feel welcome.

Gordon is preceded in death by: his father Harry, mother Wilhemina, and brother Arnie.

He is survived by: his wife Carol, his children Darin (Dianne), Dori (James), Dennis (Carla), and Darrell (Tasha); his grandchildren Elizabeth & Hank Van Dyken; Jacob, Annelise, and Miya Ruble; Millie, India, and Luna Van Dyken; and his brothers and sisters, Don (Ria), Joanne, Marjorie, Clifford (Henriette), Curt (Jane), Mary (Rudy), Wendy, and Cheryl.

Gordon will by buried in the Fir Conway Cemetery in the same community he raised his family. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 20th at 1:00pm at Summit Park Bible Church, 12700 Thompson Rd., Anacortes, Washington.
