JANET PIERCE Obituary

Mrs. Janet Louise Pierce, 75, wife, grandmother, mother, mentor, sister and friend to many died comfortably at the residence of her son Jon and daughter-in-law in Shelter Bay Sunday, March 9, 2014.

She and her surviving twin sister Joy Chapman were born in Brideport, Connecticut September 27, 1938. Her other surviving younger sister Dorothy May resides in Tucson, Arizona.

Janet and her husband James Parker Pierce who preceded her in death, graduated from the University of Arizona and moved to Mount Vernon in 1966 with their three young children Mark, Jonathan and Matthew. Together they raised a total of five boys including Jason and Aaron in the rural setting of the Skagit Valley.

Janet was a pharmacist by trade for nearly thirty years. She enjoyed her many flower and vegetable gardens ambling about the Skagit County farm and was the Fir-Conway gardening club president. Her hands, heart and mind where never idle, always creating, nurturing, learning and engaging in life, family, community and with many cultures around the world.

Survivors including the aforementioned are her brother-in-law Gary Chapman and son Allan Chapman, her daughters-in-law Tiffannie married to Jonathan, Tiffany married to Jason, Kerri married to Mark, 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Special family friends that maintained vigil are Kim Johnson, April Barker, Mary Batterberry, Richard, Carolyn, Jon and Tom Dixon and Volker Dankers, her surrogate sixth son and brother to the five boys.

A private service will be held Sunday at Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Kern Funeral Home. You may share your memories of Janet, and sign her online guest register at www.kernfuneralhome.com

This is a very sad time. Janet and I worked together for years. She had a knack for being upbeat and optimistic about work, and as I got to know her, her life in general. She was curious and always wanted to learn something new.

She was, above all, proud of her boys, and their growing families. She spoke of them with great warmth and love.

I have been honored to know her.

To the family of Janet Pierce,
We are very sorry for the loss of your mother. One can't help but notice what an amazing person she was having successfully raised five boys and at the same time being a 30 year career pharmacist.
Over the years, Erin and I have enjoyed watching you fellas grow up. We hope your experience helping us on the farm was a good experience, and that you feel the way we do, in that these years were as much about friendship and neighborliness as about a job.
We wish you and your families peace at this difficult time and may the memories of your mother bring you comfort.
Sincerely, Don and Erin Moe

So sorry to hear about your Mom. She was so upbeat and positive when I visited her before we left for Arizona. How proud she was of her boys. She told me one of her biggest accomplishments was getting Aaron raised in one piece between his motorbike & cars. You boys were there for her when she needed you. Neighbors, Jim & Marilyn Forbes
