JANICE FREDLUND Obituary
March 18, 2018
Janice M. Fredlund, a longtime Skagit County resident, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Janice was born on June 7, 1931 in Seattle, the daughter of Sam and Margaret (Pettit) Wardle. She was raised in Tacoma, WA, where she attended Stadium High School. After high school, she enrolled in the nursing program at Northern State Hospital near Sedro-Woolley. While there, she met Albert Fredlund, whom she married in 1951.
In 1953 Al and Janice, along with business partner Bill Betschart, opened the Gateway Service Station in Sedro- Woolley, which they owned and operated for 20 years.
Later Al and Janice designed and built Gateway Golf Course. After selling the golf course, Janice worked as a rural mail carrier for the Bow Post Office. She and Al lived in Burlington since building a new home there in 1992.
Janice enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, reading, and being with family and friends.
Janice is survived by her children and their spouses, Mark & Gail Fredlund of Burlington, Jeanne & Dennis Brown of Phoenix, AZ, Steve Fredlund of Sedro-Woolley and Joan & Ed Rayfield of Concrete, as well as by her brother, Sam Wardle and wife Rae of Longview, WA, 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a large extended family.
Al, Janice's husband of 65 years, her best friend and love of her life, passed away in 2016. She will truly be missed by her entire family.
Private inurnment will be at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
