JAY ANDREW Obituary

November 30, 1958 -
February 7, 2018

Called home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

"They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:31

Jay was born November 30, 1958 in Mount Vernon, Washington, to Normand Jay Andrew and Ruby Adelia (Harper) Andrew. He grew up in Mount Vernon and graduated from Mount Vernon High School.

He later attended Skagit Valley College where he received his AA degree and met the love of his life and future wife, Barbee J. Andrew. They had two boys, Normand and Philip. Jay was such a wonderful husband and father, he loved seeing his sons compete in sports and didn't want to miss any of their events.

Jay worked at Thrifty Foods for 3 years before going to SVC and worked at the Skagit Valley Herald in the circulation department, later he became an apprentice pressman, then a press operator, working there for 16 years. He then worked at the Everett Herald for 15 years, also as a press operator. The Everett Herald was sold in 2013 and Jay was laid off, at which time he became a Dial-A-Ride driver for Skagit Transit and felt blessed that God would give him another career that he enjoyed. It was a wonderful place to work and he loved meeting new people and making new friends.

Jay and Barbee started attending Lyman Baptist Church and both Jay and Barbee went forward during a revival and accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior in September of 1988. They were baptized together and became members. Later they attended the Sedro-Woolley Free Methodist Church and in 1998 they moved back to Mount Vernon to be closer to Jay's mom. They became members of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Jay enjoyed driving the church bus bringing people to church.

Six days before Christmas 2017, Jay found out that he had pancreatic cancer that had spread to his liver and spleen. He now is with his Lord Jesus Christ face to face in heaven.

Jay is survived by his wife Barbee, his son Normand and his wife Krista and their daughters Aubree and Jade, and his son Philip.

A celebration of life will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1515 E. College Way, Mount Vernon, WA, 360-424-1173, on February 24, 2018 at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers memorials in memory of Jay are suggested to the Emmanuel Baptist Church Bus Ministry or the Skagit Humane Society.

My thoughts and prayers are with Jay's family. I worked with Jay for 18 years. Both at the Skagit Valley Herald and Everett Herald. We often talked about sports, movies and especially family. As Jay had also known my wife, sister and father in law. He always spoke very highly and fondly of his wife and his boys. He was a good man, and I'm sad to hear that he is gone.
