John Ellis Obituary

John H. Ellis, age 77, a resident of Wenatchee, WA for the past 35 years, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, after a long illness.

He was born November 29, 1929 in Mount Vernon, WA to William B. Ellis and Mildred S. (Leaf) Ellis. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1947, and attended Skagit Valley Community College and the University. As a young man, John played semi-pro baseball and scouted by the Boston Red Sox.

During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the Kodiak Naval Air Station in Kodiak, AK.

On January 5, 1951, John married the love of his life, Jeannine Scheffler. John spent most of his working career in the land title business and was owner of Pioneer Title Company in Wenatchee for the past 25 years.

He was a long standing member of the Elks Club. For 50 years, John was an active ham radio operator and was widely recognized by his call sign, K7HSF. During the 1960's Alaskan earthquake disaster, John volunteered his ham radio experience to relay messages to families worried about their loved ones.

He thoroughly enjoyed traveling throughout the Southwest in his RV, together with his loving wife, "Toodie" (Jeannine). John held a lifelong passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and golf. He also enjoyed many other activities and hobbies.

He is survived by his wife and companion of 56 years, Jeannine Ellis of Wenatchee; a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Greg Boles of Wenatchee; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jan Ellis of East Wenatchee; his grandchildren. Heather (Ryan) Brown, Matthew (Maggie) Boles, Seth Ellis, and Casey Ellis; great-grandchildren, Shalee, Hunter and Blake Brown, and Natalie Boles; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Gail Ellis of Wenatchee; sister-in-law, Barbara Mahoney of Appleton, WI; nieces and nephews, Bradley Ellis, Brian Ellis, Brian Mahoney, Shawn Mahoney, Laurel Mahoney and Heather Rundquist.

At John's request, there will be no service. Memorials in his name may be made to a charity of your choice.

John was a great guy and we were so pleased when he married Jeannine. Our paths took different directions, though, so we didn't meet up after we moved to Anacortes, then Seattle. John's passing leaves a large hole in the family's heart so our sincere condolences go to each one.
