L. Bowyer Obituary

Mt Vernon -

L. Richard Bowyer, a resident of Mount Vernon, Washington died on August 15, 2025 at the age of 88. He was the oldest child of Chester M. and Georgia Harman Bowyer, born April 29, 1937 in Chelan, Washington.

The family moved to Seattle while he was still young. He graduated from Renton High School, and continued his education at the University of Washington, earning a degree in Journalism and becoming a Husky fan for life, with Seahawk fandom mixed in for variety.

While attending the UW, he married Glenda Cossey (who predeceased him) on September 18th, 1958. They were the parents to two children, Scott and Alayna.

Richard married the love of his life, Sherilynn Kay LeFord, on October 18, 1997. A few years later they relocated from Seattle to Mt Vernon where he would live out his days. Richard and Sheri were able to travel all over the world together and shared many adventures. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, holding many callings throughout the years.

He is survived by his wife, Sheri and children Scott Bowyer, Alayna (Cory) Bean, Utah, Stepdaughter Tiffany (Kurt) Ibbotson, Germany, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Gary, sister Linda (Bob) Dohm, and sister-in-law Shirley Bowyer. Preceded in death by his brother, Dale Bowyer.

The family would like to thank Curt Smith for going above and beyond for us.

A memorial service will be held Friday, September 19th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1700 East Hazel Street, Mount Vernon, Washington at 11:00 am.
