Lois Pate Obituary

Mount Vernon - Lois Jean Henderson Pate, 79, went home to be with Jesus on May 22, 2025.

Born November 24, 1945, in Seattle, Washington, to Lucille and Virgil Henderson, Lois met the love of her life, Glen Allen Pate, at Roosevelt High School. They married in 1963, moved to England, and later settled in California before making their home in Bellevue, Washington, where they built a wonderful life together and raised two children, Michelle Pate Dugas and Glen Robert Pate.

Lois earned her nursing degree from Everett Community College in 1977 and dedicated 38 years to compassionate care and leadership. She worked at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, becoming Clinical Manager of the Coronary Care Unit and Cath Lab, and later helped launch the first open-heart surgery program on the Eastside. After moving to Sedro-Woolley on Lake Whatcom, she served as Director of Nursing and then Chief Nursing Officer at Island Hospital in Anacortes until her retirement in 2015.

A talented quilter and devoted grandmother, Lois found joy in family gatherings and lovingly crafted quilts for those she cherished.

Lois is survived by her beloved husband, Glen; her daughter, Michelle, and grandsons Matthew, Michael, and Robert; her son, Glen Robert, daughter-in-law Lisa, and granddaughters Samantha and Sara. She is also survived by her brother, Bob, and his wife, Dene; nieces Terri and Jeanette; sister-in-law Nancie; and nephews Mike, Jeff, and Craig.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille, and Lucille's husband, Hugh Downie; her father, Virgil; and her nephew, Rob Henderson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Whatcom Hospice House in Bellingham, Washington.
