MAURICE RIVAS Obituary

Maurice D. Rivas, 30, of Sedro-Woolley passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Skagit Valley Hospital. He was born September 17, 1980 in Mount Vernon to Mauro P. and Maria San Juana (Cortez) Rivas.

Maurice was a mentor and friend to many. His family and friends were his number one priority. He was one of the few you could always count on to be there when you needed him. Maurice gave so much but expected nothing in return.

He loved spending time with his children, throwing BBQ's for family and friends, and going to concerts with his friends. He was a member of the Brown Pride Car Club and loved to work on his cars and go to car shows. Words cannot express how much Maurice was loved, respected, and most of all appreciated. He will be missed dearly and never be forgotten by all those whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his children: Riva, Damien, Damon, Roman, and Lilyann Rivas as well as one unborn child on the way; his brothers: Mauro Rivas, Jr and Martin M. Felix; his sisters: Cecelia Rivas, Angela Rivas, Martina Rivas, Margarita Rivas, Connie Rivas and Marina Rivas; his parents, Mauro, Sr and Maria Rivas; one grandmother, Juanita Rivas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Public visitation hours will be held on Tuesday, December 14th, Wednesday, December 15th and Thursday, December 16th from 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM at Kern Funeral Home.

Rosary will be prayed on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 7:00 PM at Kern Funeral Home.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Mount Vernon.

Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home.

It doesn't matter that it is 8 year's ago that we lost you. It still hurts, it still feels fresh. The only thing that hurts more now is knowing that after 8 year's the pain is all so real. Your children miss you, your children need you so badly. Yet you are not here and will never be. We often go to see you at your grave, but that is not the same as having you in the flesh. You are missing out on so much and all of your children miss you. I wish you were here today to ease the pain that so many of us have and hold due to the loss of your great life! I didn't think in a million year's I would be raising our kid's with out you to watch them grow. Damn I wish I could call you for advice or help. Raising a teen is hard but raising a teen who misses and needs his father is the hardest thing in my life right now. Show me the way Mouy! I know you're still here with us, I know you still watch over us but send me a sign when time's are hard and we are down. I pray every day you are in heaven with no pain. God is good and I know you love us all. Rest on Angel. One day we will all reunite through Christ.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
