Ellensburg - Randy Wyman was a good man, who was truly loved and respected by all who knew him. On Tuesday March 8, 2022, surrounded by his wife and children, Randy went home to Jesus.
Born July 9, 1961 to Lawrence and Juanita (Hensen) Wyman, Randy's first home was in Blanchard WA. His parents purchased a 10 acre farm in Alger, WA for their growing family where Randy attended Burlington-Edison schools. The Wymans, a large, blended family, worked hard and played hard. His parents instilled their work ethic and values in Randy at a very young age. In Alger the family raised a menagerie of animals including pigs and beef cows. In their garden they planted, harvested and canned the produce. These shared family activities fed them all.
Summer included trips to the family homestead in Polebridge, Montana, camping and fishing at Baker Lake, 4-H activities, showing livestock and rabbits at the Skagit County Fair, and traveling to Yakima, bringing back fruit to can and sell to others.
Randy had a very special bond with his dad, sharing a passion for hunting and fishing. Elk season at the Nooksack with the Dodge cousins was the highlight of his year. Randy learned so much from his dad including how to butcher and cut meat. They were very good at the process and had hoped to open their own butcher shop someday. At the age of 16 Randy joined the Alger Volunteer Fire Department where his dad served as Chief. Sadly, Randy's dad passed away when Randy was 19. This was a devastating point in his life. Although no one could ever replace his father, Randy was blessed with his cousin Virgil Dodge who, with grace and gentleness, took the young man under his wing and Randy loved him like a second dad.
In 1979, Randy met Tinja Wold through a blind date arranged by his friend Al Oosterhof who was dating Tinja's sister. Randy and Tinja were married in the fall of 1979. The odds were stacked against the 18-year-olds but they beat those odds and lived a full life together for 43 years. Their children, first Joe and then Cassie, were blessed to have a dad who carried on his family values. He taught them hard work, responsibility, and how to have fun. The family lived in Bow-Edison where Randy was co-leader of the Her-Ang-Dus 4-H club, Assistant Chief with the Edison Volunteer Fire Department, and worked for Marvin Omdahl dairy.
Randy made sure his children had the same experiences from his childhood. He taught them how to hunt, fish, grow a garden, butcher, run farm equipment, and raise and show beef cattle at fairs. They made summer trips to the Montana homestead and many camping trips to Baker Lake. Hunting was a big part of the family lifestyle; deer at Beaver Creek in Twisp and elk at Snow Creek in Lester. Throughout his life, elk hunting remained as the highpoint of the year for Randy.
Desiring a dryer climate and more rural setting, in 1997 the family took a leap of faith and moved to Ellensburg, WA. Randy worked for the Foreman family at Trinity Farms followed by an opportunity to manage Windridge Ranch that included apple and pear orchards, hay, and beef cattle. In 2005 he joined Kittitas Reclamation District as a Backhoe Operator and showed extraordinary skill in operating equipment with precision.
Randy was a devoted husband, father and man of faith in his Lord Jesus Christ. He loved his children and nieces and nephews deeply. Twelve years ago he became grandpa, 'Pa', and was blessed with four more grandchildren, all of whom brought great joy and new meaning to his life.
No-one was a stranger to Randy. This has been evident by the outpouring of love the family has received from people across the State.
The family would like to thank Randy's KRD family - the love and support you have shown us during the past month has meant so much to both Randy and Tinja.
Randy is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Wyman; brothers, Mark Wyman and Tommy Koontz; cousin (second dad) Virgil Dodge, and grandnephew, Thor Knutzen.
Randy leaves behind his wife, Tinja Wyman, Ellensburg, WA; son Joe (Danielle) Wyman, Bow, WA; daughter Cassie (Chris) Martin, Pasco, WA; grandchildren Georgia Wyman, Milo Wyman, Callan Martin, and twins Caden and Colton Martin; mother, Juanita Goodman, Bellingham, WA; brother Brad (Janet) Wyman, Bow, WA; sisters Toni Rasmussen, Coupeville, WA; Theresa Wyman, Burlington, WA; Tami (Dave) Strickland, Seneca, MO. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A grave side service will be held at Bow Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 18 followed by a reception at Edison Lutheran Church. A Celebration of Life will be held in Ellensburg on Saturday, April 9, 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Ellensburg, followed by a lunch at Trinity Farms.
