Thomas Oakes Obituary

Sedro-Woolley - Thomas Dean Oakes left us too soon on March 12, 2025. He was born in Sedro-Woolley, Washington on April 9, 1965, to Tom Oakes and Sue (Dean) Oakes. He lived his entire life in Sedro-Woolley, attending school with his friends in his class of 1984.

Tom was a long-time Boeing employee, working as a warehouseman for more than twenty-seven years. His idea of a perfect vacation was attending Comic-Con conventions with his nieces and nephews. Tom traveled to conventions in several states and particularly enjoyed accumulating a huge stack of autographs and pictures taken with some of the celebrities who also were attending. He collected comic books and left behind a huge number of them for others to enjoy.

Tom was a people person. He loved being with friends and family. You could count on him to be at every gathering-bringing his smile and quietly visiting with everyone.

Tom's sudden passing has left behind his father, Tom (Cheryl) Oakes of Camano Island, mother Sue Dean of Sedro-Woolley, brother, Todd Oakes of Burlington, step brother, Greg (Holly) Beal of Surprise, Arizona, stepsister, Samantha (Andy) Axelson of Rhododendron, Oregon and a host of relatives including aunts, an uncle, many cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and a great-nephew, plus many friends and co-workers.

A celebration of Tom's life will be held on Sunday, July 6 at 2:00 pm at Cascade Pizza in Sedro-Woolley. Those attending are asked to share a memorable story about Tom.

To Tom's friends and family, I am truly sorry for your loss. Tom was a friend of mine at work. He was a very special guy to me and my family. Him and I chatted a lot. I let him know how my step daughter loved comics like him. He actually bought her quite a bit of comic stuff. Signed items, posters, comics, so much stuff. Made her entire life! When I found out about his loss, it was a huge loss to my whole family. His generosity and kindness spoke so much to us. I dont think a lot of people got the privilege to know Tom like that. He will truly be missed. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Tommy became a good friend during our days together at Boeing. Knowing members of his family before we met we easily became fast friends. When I had to go to the factory or to the old receiving building, I would always stop and talk to Tommy to catch up on his life. In my 30+ years of knowing him he never had a bad word to say about anybody. Well, maybe a couple managers he couldn´t trust. I miss you Tommy. RIP my friend. We will see you when we see you on that bright and glorious day!
