Mark Thomas Stauffer

1957 - 2021

Mark Thomas Stauffer, PhD, 63 of Monongahela, died Sunday, January 3, 2021 in Monongahela-Valley Hospital.
Born March 12, 1957 in St. Marys, he was the son of the late Charles and Clara (Wickett) Stauffer.
A 1975 graduate of St. Marys High School, Mark earned his bachelor's degree and PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked as an associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh's Greensburg campus for the last 19 years, spending nine of those years as Division Chair. A member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Monongahela he was somewhat active 4th Degree Knights Of Columbus Council #2600. Mark was a member of the Amateur Astronomers Association Of Pittsburgh where he was published in Astronomy Magazine in Pittsburgh on colorful double stars, SSP, SACP, ACS and was the former President of ACS Baton Rouge. Mark was active in the Sewickley Creek Watershed Project, Pittcon, IFPAC and was currently working on several college chemistry textbooks.
Surviving are his wife Resa Brna, who he married December 27, 2000, four sisters: Shirley Lodes of St. Marys, Judy and husband Dennis Stebich of St. Marys, Grace Tamburlin of Kersey, and Mary Ann Maholtz of St. Marys and by many nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, great-great nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brother-in-laws, Joseph Lodes and Frank Tamburlin.
