Thomas Farley Obituary

Thomas P. "Slats" Farley, 87, of St. Marys, unexpectedly joined his wife in Heaven on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Penn Highlands Elk.

He was born on February 14, 1938 in St. Marys, PA, a son of the late Paul and Helen Yeager Farley.

On January 28, 1961, he married the late Sandra E. Farley, who proceeded him in death just 5 days before him on February 21, 2025. After having been inseparable for more than 64 years, Tom's devotion to Sandy was unending, and they are now together again.

Thomas was a graduate of Central High School and worked as an usher at The Harris Theatre. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the destroyer ship USS Ross. He worked in the machine shop at Stackpole in St. Marys (and later in Johnsonburg) as well as at GKN in Emporium until his retirement. Thomas served as a St. Marys City Councilman from 2002-2009 and was a member of the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail and The Singing Dutchmen.

Thomas was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and will be greatly missed. Among his many hobbies and interests, he was an avid golfer who played in the Tuesday league at Bavarian Hills Golf Course for decades. He wrote and published a book titled "Churches of Elk County" with help from the Elk County Historical Society, which he frequented often. Many times he could be found tinkering with woodworking projects, painting, building models, and reading. On warm evenings, you could find him sitting on the front porch with his beloved wife and a cup of coffee.

He is survived by one daughter; Teva Farley and her companion Gary Sorg of St. Marys; by his beloved grandson; Jesse (Teyana) Farley and his two great-granddaughters whom he loved dearly; Pippin and Lana. He is also survived by two siblings; Steve Farley and Linda Farley, both of St. Marys.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Tom was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Farley, and by a sister in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas and Sandra Farley will be celebrated on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 1:00 PM at St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Ignatius Camello as celebrant.

Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation for Tom and Sandy will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
