Sally JOHNSON-TORRES

JOHNSON-TORRES, Sally Sally (Sarah) H. Johnson-Torres died peacefully on March 21, 2016 in Mill Valley, California. She was 87. Born April 11, 1928 in San Francisco to Frederic Johnson and Pauline Wheeler, Sally had many happy memories of growing up in Los Gatos where her father started his company, Spice Islands. Following school at Hamlins in San Francisco, she went on to get her BA in English from the University of Oregon. After graduating, Sally traveled around Europe, worked for NATO in France. She later returned to San Francisco where she taught elementary school and, in 1960, married Victor Mejia Torres. They are survived by their three children, Peter, Natalia and Alex. Sally found so much joy in traveling, gardening, learning, reading and hiking the hills and mountains of California. She was an adventurous spirit who said she would have been an explorer if she had not been a teacher. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass at Trinity Episcopal Church on 275 East Spain Street, Sonoma on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life reception will follow at 12:30 at The General's Daughter, 400 West Spain Street in Sonoma. Memorial donations may be made in Sally's memory to Trinity Episcopal Church in Sonoma.
