Audry Annis Obituary

May 11, 1920 - June 16, 2008
SOUTH BEND - Audry Faye Annis, 88, died on June 16, 2008, at 12:45 p.m. in Hospice House, South Bend. She was born on May 11, 1920, in Park City, Montana, to Edna and Thad Whitinger. She graduated from Riley High School in 1938 and was married to Alvin Glenn Magnuson in 1941. He passed away in 1966. She and Louis Annis Jr. were married in 1972, and he survives. She is also survived by daughters, Marsha Gordon and Debbie (George) Tezich, and son, Jim (Chris) Magnuson; sons-in-law, Alan Gordon and John Hipskind. Also surviving are stepdaughters, Kathy Rodgers and Lynn (Burnett) Howard; stepsons, Lon (Barbara) Annis and Steven Annis; 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, with the 25th great-grandchild expected in August 2008. Audry worked for Defense Contract Administrative Services as quality assurance inspector. She retired after more than 20 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, was an avid bridge player for more than 70 years, sang in "Mother's Choir," and after her retirement she became an accomplished artist creating pastel portraits and watercolor paintings. Audry and Lou were happily married for nearly 36 years, having met in Parents Without Partners. They were truly partners in life. They enjoyed many years of working and traveling together throughout most of the United States. Audry loved to dance, loved her friends, children and grandchildren. She also loved her pets, and especially her "Kitty." She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John, Raymond and Wilbur Whitinger; and her daughter, LeAnne Hipskind. The family wishes to thank the South Bend EMTs, firemen of South Bend, and the staffs at Hospice House and Memorial Hospital for the care they gave to Audry. They also give very special thanks to Betty and Deller and the staff at Harbor Light Hospice for the extraordinary efforts and care they took to comfort us all during this difficult time. Visitation with Audry's family will be today, June 18th, 2008, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, June 19th, at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Homeless Center, 813 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46601; to Grace United Methodist Church, 3012 S. Twyckenham Drive, South Bend, IN 46614; to Hospice House, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to Harbor Light Hospice, 4330 Miami, South Bend, IN 46614. Painting with Audry for 20 years made me appreciate her humor and the wonderful closeness she shared with Lou. She painted with joy and humor, and was fun to be with. I know I and the rest of our painting buddies will miss her very much. My thoughts are with all her family and friends she leave behind. Roz Saz
