Brian Buda Obituary
SOUTH BEND - Brian A. Buda, 37, passed away at 1:19 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2011, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Brian was born on January 29, 1974, in South Bend, to Ronald L. and Janet J. (Brzezinski) Buda. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tony and Florence Brzezinski, and Lou and Birdie Buda. Brian is survived by his parents; a brother, Brett Buda of South Bend; sister, Brigette Hundt of Mishawaka; and his nephew, Cole Hundt. He is also survived by his loving companion, Penny Derickson, and the entire Derickson family. He also left behind his beloved pets or "fur kids," Queen, Chopper, Coco, Pistol, Sassy and Norm. Brian lived in South Bend all of his life. He worked in the area as a bartender. He belonged to Holy Family Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Young Men's Club. He graduated from Washington High School in 1992. Brian loved playing video games and was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and the Boston Celtics. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2011, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. Friends and family may gather from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, in Holy Family Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 15th, in Holy Family Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sister Maura Brannick, CSC, Health Center, c/o The Foundation of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, 837 E. Cedar St., South Bend, IN 46617 Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.

To Brian’s family and friends: my thoughts and prayers have been with you these past few days, but I just didn’t know what to say. I have to admit I’m surprised at how hard this hit me. After all, I haven’t seen Brian since I moved to Arizona 16 years ago—we were both working at Tippecanoe at the time—but I think he’s always going to have a special little place in my heart. The place reserved for your first real boyfriend. The place reserved for your first kiss (freshman year, right in front of his locker at WHS for all the world to see!). Of course all the details of that teenage romance have blurred over the years, but I still remember him being so chivalrous, walking me to classes and home after school, completely out of his way, and then I’d watch him head home, the green satin of his Celtics jacket slowly fading in the distance. Brian was such a kind soul, and I’m sure he will be missed greatly. I know he’s up in Heaven now, probably sitting courtside at a Celtics game, and will watch over you with love. You remain in my prayers and I hope you can find comfort in the love and support of family and friends.

My prayers go out to the Buda family. Although I haven't seen Brian since high school, my memories of him are still in my mind. He was a great person and I have only happy memories of him from both Holy Family and Washington High School. I hope that the Buda family over time finds the peace and comfort they need knowing Brian is with our Maker.
