Brian Lunsford Obituary

Brian Edward Lunsford

Nov. 9, 1945 - Mar. 16, 2016

MISHAWAKA - Brian E. Lunsford, 70, passed away at 7:08 pm on March 16, 2016 in Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 9, 1945 in South Bend, IN to Opal (Driscoll) and Claude Lunsford. On May 13, 1989 he married Elizabeth Jane Culp.

Surviving him are his loving and devoted wife Elizabeth Jane, children Brian Lunsford Jr of Noblesville, IN, Heather (Chip) Singleton of South Bend, IN, Patricia (Jeff) Benjamin of Sharpsburg, GA, Jennifer (Tom) Whitehead of Granger, IN, Ronald (Carrie) Culp of South Bend, IN, and Danielle Culp of Missoula, MT. Brian has 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings Joanne (Kenneth) Kiester of South Bend, IN and Claude (Bobbie) Lunsford Jr of Ohio. Also surviving is his beloved German Shepherd, Delana. He was looking forward to seeing her first litter of puppies later this year.

Brian was in the United States Army, serving 2 tours in Vietnam. He received the Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Service Star and one Bronze Service Star, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with “60” Device, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and The Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm Device. He was honorably discharged after his years of bravery and valiant service to his country.

Brian enjoyed all aspects of flying, including being a pilot. He loved traveling in the US and abroad, oil painting, entrepreneurships- including establishing a Comedy Booking Agency through which he created many new friendships. Brian was an accomplished author, many of his writings have been published on-line. He was highly anticipating the release of his first book, “Morphed: A Tale of Transformation” which is scheduled to be released on April 5 of this year by Tate Publishing.

Brian loved spending time with his family. He was a loving parent and a wonderful friend. He would always take the time to truly listen, he genuinely cared, and helped others believe that their dreams were possible and within reach. This wasn't just talk either, he lived it... a brave man, an adventurer, an artist, a biblical scholar who cared deeply about everyone's soul. He would gladly meet people where they were at in their life's journey, and had a way of making you feel at ease. Brian helped others to appreciate “what a wonderful world” it really is... and he will be forever held dear in the hearts of his family and friends.

Visitation for Brian will be held on Monday, March 21 at Bubb Funeral Chapel in Mishawaka from 3-7 PM, with Military Rites being performed at 6 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to help the family with unexpected expenses of Brian's sudden passing. Memorial donations may be made in Brian's name to Jennifer Whitehead, C/O Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka, Indiana 46545

I knew Brian in Main Junior High.. I guess you could say we were "an item". What a rascal he was! While his friends and family have lost a loved one, God has gained an angel. Rest in peace my friend.

My most sincere condolences at the death of Brian, far too young. I didn't know Brian but I did know Claude, Sr. who was the brother of my father, Abraham Lincoln Lunsford.

Brian and I were in school together at Bingham Elementary in the 1950's. I knew him and an artist even then. Wonderful personality. May he rest in the hands of Jesus.
