Darrell Hogue Obituary

Feb. 25, 1936 - Aug. 20, 2009
OSCEOLA - Darrell G. Hogue "Dako," 73, of Osceola, passed away at 10:00 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Darrell was born on February 25, 1936, in Holcomb, Missouri, to the late Lester and Willie Lee (Key) Hogue, and was brought up to Indiana after his father found work at Bendix. Darrell had lived in the Osceola area all his adult life. On June 21, 1969, he married Connie Armold from Mt. Ayr, Indiana. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Connie of Osceola; two daughters, Ronda Barbaro of Elkhart and Karey Hogue of Mishawaka; two grandchildren, Vinny Barbaro and Abby Smith. He is also survived by two brothers, Gerald (Margorie) Hogue of Mishawaka and Farrell (Janet) Hogue of Osceola. He was preceded in death by his parents. Darrell attended Mishawaka High School with the class of 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Army for two years, receiving an honorable discharge on February 14, 1958. He was an M.P. in the Army and spent most of his time in Hawaii. Darrell retired from Mittler Supply after 35 years of service. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, August 24, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2009, in the funeral home, with one hour of visitation prior to the services. Rev. John Gregory will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Darrell really enjoyed having a friend help him restore his 1950 red Mercury Monterey. He won many trophies with it and for several years enjoyed going to nearby car shows plus some out of town. He also enjoyed keeping his yard looking well-groomed. He loved spending time with his immediate family. He was a very gentle and kind soul, and would do anything to avoid conflict. Memorial donations may be made to the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to St. Mark Missionary Church, 11805 Loughlin Drive, Mishawaka, IN 46545. He was my father's favorite nephew and my first cousin. I remember the camping trip he took me on when I was 10 in northern Michigan. I was to babysit Rhonda and Kerry Jo, but by the time we arrived I was car sick and they were taking care of me for a day. Later there was a bear near the outhouse and none of us girls would go out there without his escort. It was a fun trip!
