Edward Jachimiak Obituary

SOUTH BEND - Edward “Poncho” Jachimiak Sr., 82, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at the Hospice House.
Edward “Poncho” was born October 28, 1933, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Bernice (Wojtasik) Jachimiak. Edward was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ted and Walter, and sister, Eleanor.
On February 16, 1957, in South Bend, Edward married his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia (Robinson) Jachimiak, who survives, along with their children, Diana Jachimiak, Deborah Rist, Darlene Takacs, and Edward Jachimiak, Jr; grandchildren, Casey, Cory (Liz), Christopher, Chad, Cody, Evan and Seth; great-grandchildren, Colin, Dominic and Emma; brothers, Eugene (Marie) and Raymond; and sister-in-law, Maxine Jachimiak.
Edward honorably served his country in the United States Army in the 71st Helicopter Battalion. Throughout his career, Edward was owner of his own service station and proprietor with North American Van Lines and Oil Express. He retired in 1998 from B&R Oil. Edward was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was an avid mechanic, camper, traveler, and loved country music. Edward enjoyed his vegetable gardening, NASCAR, playing euchre, and cheering on the Colts (and later the Broncos). Edward lived a full and eventful life. He will truly be missed by many.
A gathering with the family will be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday, March 28, 2016, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., with a Funeral Service to begin at 1:00 pm. Private burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.

I know the time I got with you wasn't very long but I thank God for the time we did have together...Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your family. Grandpa, for as long as I can remember you where the first person I would get a hold of if I needed anything, you never hesitated to help me. You treated me like I was your on son instead of your grandson.GRANDPA you are going to be so missed,you brightened up everyone day with your smile and laugh. I have many memories of Uncle Poncho,,but my best memory was yrs ago when we all were kids,and you all use to come to our house and we would play games while our parents played cards and had a few,,,,and one time your dad ask your mom to dance,,,they were a little tipsy,,and they were dancing in our kitchen,slow dancing that is,,and your dad said,,,Pat I never knew you were such a good dancer,,,and she replied,,,,cuz you never ask me to dance!!! LOL He was always funny,,,he will be missed sooo much,,,like

sometimes u meet someone who has a lasting impression on our life, that person was this man who reached out to me like a son who i loved liked a dad. he gave me a wonderful daughter name debbie who i love with all my heart he was so kind and gentle who was always there for me i am so greatful to know this man god made a angel when he was born.i will always love u ed and your family.

He is the reason I am the man I am today. He was the man I looked up too. He was the man who could fix anything. Car broke down?? Grandpa could fix it! Water heater not working?? Call Grandpa!! Pipes broke under the house?? You know who can fix it, Grandpa! I will always remember him as a strong man and a fighter to the very end!
I'm glad I had the chance to be inspired to be like him, the one who could fix anything. I remember asking for plenty of advice when I was younger, and have the chance to return some of the favor, giving you advice on the new stuff once I got older.
Though your time here is over, you will live on in all those you have touched and inspired!

A long time ago when I was just five years old, my uncle Ed drove a semi over the road. One night out of the blue I see this huge truck pull up in front of my house, I was totally blown away from the sight.
He let me up in the cab, then gave me a ride, right then and there a little 5 year old kid knew he was going to be a tractor trailer driver.
I taught myself how to drive, everything from doubles, triple trailers, double 48' trailers , 120 foot 10-12 tandem drop deck heavy haulers and using every transmission you could imagine. I hauled everything from aircraft , M1A tanks ,200.000 lb diesel power stations, boats , Catapillar D8-D10's.
My uncle Ed gave me a destiny to jobs that I loved, driving on the most dangerous freeways in America daily and loving every minute of the challenge. I was proud of the standards that I held myself to driving, it was a job I did very well .
My uncle passed away the other day, it is sad to see a man that you have admired as a kid pass. But one thing I will never forget is that little gesture of a ride in a truck would determine my future occupation . Thank you Uncle Ed ( Poncho) for the guidance , rest in peace. Jay

So sorry for your lose cousin Pat. Ed was such a nice person. Always remember seeing him delivering gas at Snow peak station in Osceola. He would always talk to mom and I whenever we seen him. Sending prayers to you and family to heal your hearts. God bless!
