John M. Hobkirk Feb. 25, 1948 - May 13, 2014 MISHAWAKA - John M. Hobkirk, 66, of Mishawaka, died on Tuesday, May 13, surrounding by his loving family. John was born February 25, 1948, in Mishawaka, IN, to the late Delmer and Elsie (Schelstraete) Hobkirk. As a loving father and grandfather he is survived by his four children, Angie (Chip) Goodwyn of Knoxville, TN, Jeffrey Hobkirk of Elkhart, Ryan (Katie) Hobkirk of Lakeville, IN and Jennifer (Kenny) McGee of Granger, IN. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Katie, Georde and Charlie Goodwyn, Andrew, Emily, Nicholas, Benjamin, Lauren and Alex Hobkirk, Kyle, Gavin, Mason and Levi McGee; along with one brother, Ron (Karen) Hobkirk of Jones, MI. After retiring from Dodge Manufacturing, John purchased Jerry's Pub also known as the "6th Street watering hole", which kept him very busy. He loved all sports, but really enjoyed bowling and fishing. He took the most pride out of coaching his daughter's softball teams. Over the years John became an avid Notre Dame and White Sox fan. John was a veteran of the United States Army. He served his country proudly during Vietnam and received the Purple Heart. His children would like to offer a special thank you to all of their family and friends for the support they've given them and John over the last three years. Visitation for John will be held on Monday, May 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W.8th St., Mishawaka where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. VFW Post 360/American Legion 161 Burial squad will officiate military rites. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Foundation Supporting Center for Hospice Care: South Bend-Elkhart-Plymouth, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
